Aromatherapy carrier oils, which are of vegetable origin, possess therapeutic properties. These oils are known are fixed oils and are derived from nuts and seeds by cold pressing. In the cold pressing method, the heat is reduced and minimized throughout the batching of the raw material. Why are carrier oils cold pressed? They are cold pressed to make sure those therapeutic fatty acids and vitamins remain unscathed during the manufacturing process.

We know that undiluted essential oils are too powerful and have an adverse effect on the skin. So, they should be diluted in suitable carrier oil. Carrier oils provide sufficient lubrication and also enable the absorption of essential oils into the body. These oils also act as a medium for cosmetics or a lathering agent for soap.

Fixed oils (carrier oils) are supposed to be light and non-sticky so that penetration takes place effectively. These oils should also be unbleached, unrefined, pure and cold pressed. Do not use mineral oils, as they have poor powers of absorption and give a greasy feeling to the skin. Examples of carrier oils are Apricot kernel oil, Avocado refined oil, Sweet almond oil, Borage oil, Coconut oil, Black seed oil, Grape seed oil, Rosehip oil, Hazelnut oil, Macadamia nut oil, Sunflower oil, Peach kernel oil and many more.

Now, you have an idea on aromatherapy and essential oils. Remember to use the right carrier oil so as to get the desired effect.
