Aroma therapyAromatherapy refers to the therapeutic use of essential oils for achieving physical, spiritual and psychological well being. The essential oil is prepared from various aromatic plant resources including grasses, leaves, flowers, needles, twigs, fruit peels, wood and roots. There are about 150 essential oils with antiseptic properties. The essential oils made out of natural and pre raw materials are more effective than synthetically made oils.
'Aroma' means scent and 'therapy' means treatment. So it is needless to say that 'Aromatherapy' means treatment using scents. Aromatherapy involves a holistic treatment of body and mind using pleasant smelling botanical oils such as rose, lemon, lavender and peppermint. Generally, the essential oils are added to the bath tub or inhaled directly or sprayed to scent an entire room or massaged into the skin.
They are used for a variety of reasons such as pain relieves, skin care, tension and anxiety reduction and to relax the min d and to refresh the entire body. They are usually inhaled to activate the brain and nervous system through the stimulation of the olfactory nerves. Aromatherapy is gaining popularity as an alternative medicine.
